Do you use water color and what kind of paper do you suggest to use? Preferably one that doesn't warp.
Pretty much everything I do that is painted is watercolour! If you’re looking for non-warping paper, go for something heavy stock that’s meant specifically for watercolour, that’ll probably hold up pretty well.
I tend not to stick to a particular type of paper, I pretty much paint on whatever I have lying around. The last few comics I’ve painted were just done in my cheap old sketchbook. I don’t think tools matter as much as just doing the thing, that’s where improvement lies!
I tend to never answer questions I get asked here on Tumblr, so I’ve decided to sift through the ask box and answer a few questions in one post! I’ll probably do another of these at some point so keep sending me your burning questions.
What’s your process for getting your comics from paper to digital?
I’ve had so many incarnations of this question, so I thought I’d put it to rest. I draw almost all of my linework on paper and then I scan it in and do touchups/mess with levels on Photoshop.
Where do you see yourself in 2 years time?
Chilling on a private yacht surrounded by hot people.
I take it you like Thomas Wellmann?
I don’t know who that is.
Did you ever find out what those small papercuts things are from?
I didn’t! I got a lot of people on here suggesting they might be dryness related? But I’m not sure! It’s forever a mystery.
Can you explain your watercolor technique a little?
I don’t have a super specific technique, I work in layers usually doing flat colours first and building up more and more layers of paint. I add detail and highlights last. A lot of my “technique” just comes from trial and error and working till I feel satisfied, I’m still learning all the time!
Do you have any tips on how to find a style or how you found yours?
I really don’t have many tips, what even IS my style?? I think just keep drawing in a way you enjoy and you’ll probably be on the right track.
What kinds of pens/paper/media are your favorites?
I like any pens that are waterproof and I love watercolour for its unpredictability.
Do you want that pizza in my fridge back or can I have it for dinner tomorrow?
